Junior dog handlers: Life skills

Dog -Savvy Kids. Happy Dogs.

A fun, confidence-building dog training course where kids learn how to communicate with their dogs, train them  kindly, and become their dog's favourite human.

We believe kids and dogs can build incredible friendships - when children learn how dogs think, feel and learn.

The Junior Dog Handler - Life Skills Course teaches kids aged 8-12 the foundations of kind, positive dog training while developing responsibility, empathy and practical skills they can use for life.

Because when kids understand their dogs...

everyone enjoys life together a whole lot more.

Who This Course is For

This course is perfect for families who:

  • Have a child aged 8-12 who loves their dog
  • Want their child to learn how to train their dog safely and kindly
  • Want to build confidence and responsibility in their child
  • Want their do to be calmer, more responsive and easier to live with
  • Believe dogs are family and want their child to learn how to be their dog's best friend

No previous training experience is needed.

What Kids Will Learn

Throughout the course, kids learn that being a great dog trainer isn't about being bossy - it's about being kind, patient and fun to learn with.

We introduce kids to the concept of positive reinforcement training, which simply means:

▶️When dogs do something we like, we reward them.

Just like people, dogs repeat behaviours that bring good things.

Kids learn how to:

  • Communicate clearly with their dog
  • Reward the behaviours they want
  • Teach their dog what to do instead of unwanted behaviours
  • Understand what their dog is saying through body language

By the end of the course, kids stat to see the world from their dog's point of view - and that's where the magic happens.

What We Teach Each Week

Week 1 - Becoming Your Dog's Favourite Teacher

Kids learn the foundations of positive reinforcement training and how dogs learn.

We introduce our first training skill: Sit

And learn our first training game: Find it!

Week 2 - Understanding Dog Body Language

Understanding a dog's body language helps kids become better trainers and better friends to their dogs.

Skill of the week: Recall - Come When Called

Week 3 - Building Patience & Teaching "Down"

This week we develop patience and careful training skills.

Kids learn how to teach their dog to lie down using small, achievable steps so dogs stay comfortable and confident.

Week 4 - Loose Lead Walking

Walks are much more enjoyable when dogs walk with us instead of pulling ahead.

Kids learn how to teach their dog to walk on a "smiling lead"

Week 5 - Stay (statue!)

Our final skill teaches dogs how to stay still like a statue.

This skill is useful for everyday situations like:

  • Waiting for dinner
  • staying calm when visitors arrive
  • staying still while owners pick up poo!

Kids learn how to build this behaviour slowly and patiently.

Because the best dog trainers know:

Training is never about perfection - it's about helping your dog succeed.

Fun Training Games Every Week

Every class also includes interactive games that help dogs and kids bond while practicing their skills.

Because when learning feels like play...

dogs and kids both learn faster.
